Learning Stories
Am reading some great books on early learning at the moment the include some books on emergent learning which I am really passionate about and a book called learning stories - by Margaret Carr which is all about constructing learner identities in early learning. This book demonstrates how as educators we need to allow learners to construct their own learning. They can do this by co-constructing learning stories and by demonstrating the learning that has occurred over time.
Kindergarten in 2013
Well after my last post I became a bit slack and got caught up in coping with the documentation side of being a kindergarten teacher in long day care in a 3 - 5 yr room when kindergarten is mainly for 4 year olds with limited programming time. Since then heaps has changed. I work at a double centre and we at the end of last year decided to rearrange our centre so we now have two preschool rooms with two kindergarten programs. Which we are now into our third week. It is full on though I have two fantastic group leaders who are keen and passionate about kindergarten which is fantastic!

Curriculum Workshop
Today Wednesday the 22nd of August
I went to a workshop presented by the Queensland Curriculum organisation which covered inclusive practices in kindergarten we were provided with a variety of resources on supporting children in our different settings
We then looked at an example folio and how to make judgements using the continua in kindergarten settings and then use that to write transition statements
What I found most valuable is the connections I made with other kindergarten teachers and what they had learnt from their experiences so far with inclusive practices and folios and writing transition statements.
Hopefully I can reflect further on what I have learnt
I will see what I can start to action tomorrow when I go back to my centre

Introduction
Welcome
Hey Fellow Educators welcome to my blog which documents and makes public my learnings in my first year and beyond of teaching kindergarten in a long day care centre in North Queensland.
I hope that fellow educators in Queensland and the rest of Oz can learn from my posts. As well as parents and community members.
I have traditionally come from the school sector and due to my own children being quite young made the move to early childhood and have worked in a long day care setting. My setting is a three room centre which is part of a double centre for a large early childhood company.
I work in the preschool room which can take up to 24 every day but is not quite full. I have an assistant which has worked in this room for 6 years and at different time has been the group leader and has not spent much time in this new kindergarten program but is willing to learn which is fantastic.
Hopefully this blog will benefit someone even if it is only the ideas that are presented.
